How Ketamine Treatment Works in Nashville

Outpatient Mental Health Care in Nashville

Our Nashville clinics offer a clinically supervised, evidence-based approach for residents seeking relief from depression and other treatment-resistant conditions. We provide ketamine infusion therapy in a medically monitored environment, designed for adults who have not responded adequately to conventional antidepressants or other standard treatments. Patients from Downtown Nashville, Midtown, Green Hills, and surrounding communities can access this treatment on an outpatient basis, without the need for hospitalization or extended recovery time.

How Ketamine Works on the Brain

Ketamine acts on the NMDA receptor system in the brain, which differs from the mechanism of traditional antidepressants that primarily target serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine pathways. This distinct mechanism allows ketamine to produce antidepressant effects more rapidly — often within hours to days — in patients who have not responded to other medications. Clinical teams in Nashville focus on individualized dosing and careful session monitoring to help patients achieve meaningful symptom relief.

Clinical Standards and Session Monitoring

Every ketamine infusion session at our Nashville locations is administered and monitored by licensed medical professionals. Vital signs are tracked throughout each session, and clinical staff remain present at all times. Our protocols align with published guidelines from psychiatric and anesthesiology associations. Patients are assessed before, during, and after each infusion to ensure tolerability and to track therapeutic progress over the course of treatment.

Scheduling That Fits Your Life

Our Nashville clinics are located in accessible areas across Downtown Nashville, Midtown, and Green Hills. Because ketamine infusions are outpatient procedures, most patients are able to schedule sessions around work and family obligations. Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, and patients are asked to arrange transportation home afterward. Our staff work with you to build a treatment schedule that is realistic and manageable for your routine.

Nashville Ketamine FAQs

Our Nashville clinics serve a broad range of patients across the greater Nashville area, offering clinically supervised ketamine infusion therapy for residents throughout Middle Tennessee. We provide treatment for:

  • Depression
  • ADHD
  • OCD
  • Anxiety
  • PTSD
  • Bipolar
  •

During your consultation, our clinicians will conduct a thorough psychiatric and medical evaluation to determine whether ketamine is an appropriate treatment option for your specific diagnosis and history.

Traditional antidepressants work by adjusting serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine levels and typically require weeks to produce noticeable effects. Ketamine targets the glutamate system via NMDA receptors and can produce antidepressant effects within hours to days. It is administered intravenously in a clinical setting rather than taken as a daily oral medication. Ketamine is typically considered for patients who have not responded to one or more conventional treatments.

The cost of ketamine infusion therapy varies based on the number of sessions in your individualized treatment plan. Insurance coverage for ketamine infusions is limited but growing — some Tennessee-based plans may cover infusions for specific diagnoses. Our staff will help you verify your benefits and explore available financing or patient assistance options to make treatment accessible.

You will be seated or reclined comfortably in a monitored treatment room. An IV line will be placed, and ketamine will be administered at a controlled rate over approximately 45–60 minutes. You may experience mild dissociative sensations, altered perception of time, or visual changes during the infusion — these are expected and subside shortly after the session ends. A clinical team member remains present throughout. You will need someone to drive you home afterward.

A referral is not always required, but we recommend beginning with a consultation so our clinical team can assess whether ketamine is appropriate for your condition. This evaluation reviews your psychiatric history, current medications, and medical background to help determine candidacy and develop a personalized treatment plan.
