Sherrie Smith, DNP, PMHNP-BC
Overview
Sherrie Smith is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. She has unique insight into mental illness which she developed while working in EDs, psychiatric departments, community mental health clinics, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams, and co-facilitating grief groups for individuals dealing with the loss of loved ones to suicide. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Utah, specializing in psychiatric mental health; she completed her undergraduate studies in microbiology and nursing at Weber State University.
Her career began in the ED, and she became interested in psychiatric disorders, witnessing how underserved those with mental illness and neurological disorders were within the healthcare system. Realizing their vulnerability, she found ways to help them cope with the stigma they faced, treating them holistically, as unique individuals – not merely treating their disease process. Her passion is working with serious and persistent mental illnesses (such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, mood, and personality disorders, and schizophrenia).
She remains up-to-date on the latest research of pharmacological treatments and modalities in mental health, completing the Psychedelic Harm Reduction series, Fundamentals of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and Fundamentals of Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. Sherrie is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, American Nurses Association (ANA), American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), and Utah Nurse Practitioners (UNP).
