Patience Morikang

Overview

Patience Morikang began showing interest in psychiatry while in nursing school. She was passionate about helping mental health patients at clinical rotations, especially when others were more reluctant. She gradually realized that this was her calling as she was drawn more and more to this population. She became dedicated to changing the stigma surrounding mental health struggles and wanted to be a part of treating their symptoms. She pursued a higher degree to be able to provide a higher level of care and create a positive impact on mental health.

In working with her patients, Patience is highly collaborative and starts by listening to what the patient has to say. She works in tandem with the patient to come up with the best possible treatment for their symptoms in a nonjudgmental way. She provides her patients with tools to cope with daily stressors and hopes her patients stay actively involved in their health through communication with her as they work towards relief and recovery from their suffering.

Patience has learned that not all patients respond to antidepressants and/or talk therapy alone. She appreciates both Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and esketamine nasal spray as alternatives for patients who have not responded to other treatments. Both of these treatments are FDA-approved and noninvasive, offering potential healing when other forms of therapy have not provided sufficient relief from the symptoms of depression.
