Overview

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but Michael Sherman also feels it’s one of the most powerful steps you can take toward healing. As a licensed clinical social worker, his goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to work through life’s challenges.

Michael specializes in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, and LGBTQIA+ concerns. Trauma in particular is something he is deeply passionate about treating, as it often impacts so many aspects of life and overall well being. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Michael brings both advanced training and compassion to this work.

He draws from evidence-based approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, mindfulness practices, motivational interviewing, and person-centered therapy. Michael works collaboratively with his clients to find the methods that fit their needs, goals, and personality.

While therapy can be serious, it doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. He believes humor and warmth can be powerful tools for connection and healing. Clients often describe Michael as approachable and down-to-earth, and he wants clients to feel comfortable bringing their whole selves into the room.

Outside of therapy, Michael enjoys stand-up comedy, running a podcast with his wife (who’s also a therapist), and quoting way too many lines from The Simpsons. Laughter is an important part of his life, and he finds that it can also be an important part of therapy.
