Overview

Dawn is a psychiatric nurse practitioner in NH, who provides mental health care to children, adolescents and young adults. She has a unique degree in Elementary Education and has worked with children and adults in a variety of settings, including residential, inpatient involuntary care, and community mental health. Her expertise encompasses a range of mental health disorders, including her passions:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • Oppositional Defiance Disorder
  • Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder

She is proud to be able to meet patients on an individual level through combining her ability to truly connect with younger adults and children, empathize and involve parents, and her strong educational background and experience. Dawn not only has a unique degree in Elementary education which assists her in understanding the school system on a whole other level, she has even worked in very high intensity environments such as inpatient involuntary. She truly understands the school system and every level of psychiatric concerns.

Dawn has a strong passion for working with clients who may have multiple diagnoses with overlapping symptoms: Autism with ADHD, for example. Her services include psychiatric medication management with a focus on helping each client find a “whole person” approach to mental health. Come work with Dawn to experience a provider who not only truly cares, but can understand your school dilemmas. While her specialty is child and adolescent treatment, Dawn also sees some adult patients– up to 64 years of age.

Treating mental health requires more than just prescribing medication, especially when treating our children and young adults. A competent and compassionate practitioner needs to gather and assess information about the client as well as truly get to know them as a person; they also need knowledge of the childhood stages of development, including the typical behaviors of every age group, in order to properly assess symptoms of illness. Without both, how can a former or desired quality of life be achieved?

With Dawn Grist, your child and you, as a parent, will be encouraged to understand and be part of the decision-making process; to work as a team to improve your daily life experiences by lowering the negative symptoms being experienced and the negative effects of those symptoms on every aspect of life: school, work, family relationships, and friendships. Dawn can assist you by looking at the whole individual, helping to find appropriate therapies and specialist assessments while also being mindful of physical health issues that may be impacted by medication choices.
