Dr Steve Best
Overview
Dr. Best a board-certified psychiatrist, neuropsychiatrist, researcher, and inventor with
more than three decades of experience treating complex and highly treatment-resistant
psychiatric and neurologic conditions. He completed an advanced two-year clinical and
research fellowship in child and adult neuropsychiatry at Chicago Medical School and
has received specialized training in TMS, VNS, transcranial electrical stimulation, ECT,
EEG, and functional brain imaging.
A recognized innovator in interventional psychiatry, Dr. Best is the inventor of a patented
combination therapy that pairs noninvasive brain stimulation, including TMS and
transcranial electrical stimulation, with ketamine or other NMDA receptor antagonists.
His work is supported by patents granted in the United States, Europe, Canada, and
Eurasia and is focused on improving the strength and durability of treatment response in
patients with severe, refractory illness.
Dr. Best has contributed more than 80 publications to the peer-reviewed medical
literature, and his work has been cited over 150 times, including just last week by the
APA practice advisory submitted by Ian Cook, MD. His clinical expertise includes
treatment-resistant depression, psychosis, chronic pain, brain injury, post-stroke
conditions, dementia, neurodegenerative disorders, and complex cases involving
multiple diagnoses or previously unsuccessful treatments.
